How to calculate the correct resistor
The things you need to Know
Supply voltage = (Battery / DC power source to run the LED)
LED voltage = (Every LED has a maximum voltage)
Voltage drop = (Difference between the supply voltage & the LED voltage)
LED current = (Every LED has a maximum current)
Formula Online calculator.
Supply voltage (12v)
Minus
LED voltage (1.7v)
Equals
Voltage drop 10.3
divided by
LED current (20ma)
Times 1000 Equals
Resistor value 515

Important information on LED's
uk-leds light emitting diodes are very bright and therfore should never be directed at the naked eye as this could cause serious damage. Anti-static precautions must be observed when handling these devices. Never use without a current limiting resistor.
